Up next! SERVICE AND SUPPORT, a staged reading at the Kitchen Theatre: Tuesday, June 5 @ 7:30pm
Service and Support by Séamus Miller, directed by Juliana Kleist-Mendez. With Matt Prigge, Eli Schoenberg, Nick Shuhan, and Anya Gibian.
ParaCosm Theatrics is pleased to announce a staged reading of Service and Support, a play in one act at the Kitchen Theatre. A "comedy of monologues", the play follows four characters through a corporate wasteland of mechanical and romantic misfires. Author Séamus Miller (Cornell '12), calls the piece, "a conflation of technology and humanity; the characters are trying desperately to communicate--both with the each other and the audience--but systems and protocols keep getting in the way." The dialogue is interrupted by error messages, troubleshooting tips, and employee evaluations that blur the line between human and mechanical existence. "There's some Christmas carols, voodoo dolls, and lingerie thrown in for good measure, too," Miller adds, referring to the odd obsessions of his quirky characters. An earlier draft of the play received 2nd Prize in Cornell's Heermans-McCalmon Playwriting Competition.
